Tavneet Sandhu
Welcome! I’m Tavneet - the founder of Himmat Counselling Centre and a Registered Psychotherapist. I’m someone who struggled to find a therapist that looked like me and culturally understood what I was going through – my goal has been to create a space that offers culturally relevant mental health support.
I was raised in a multigenerational household where my identity was shaped by being the eldest daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, a niece and a cousin. As I continued to grow my identity included being a friend, a partner, Punjabi and first generation Canadian. The pressure of competing identities is one I’m all too familiar with and the challenges of balancing it all.
As a South Asian therapist, I pride myself in taking a therapeutic approach that is culturally sensitive to all, considerate of all parts of your identity and collaborative. In order to reach your goals, we’ll pull from evidence-based therapies.
